Call Me Crazy

Thank you so much for all your input on my crib bedding!
I have made a decision.
This is what I have decided on...

Yes. I know.

This wasn't even one of the choices, but ya know this is what I REALLY want! It is so beautiful and classic.

The only problem now is that I can't decide whether or not I should get it with or without the canopy (it is a little frilly from the front).

Decisions. Decisions. Decisions...oh how I hate them!

I am still alive

Yes. I am still here!
I am sorry it has been almost a month since my last post.

It is just that when I get a chance to blog these days I decide to sleep or watch mindless TV or read mindless books instead.

I think it is my mind and bodies way of preparing for my soon to be sleepless nights (only 7 more weeks to go).

Also, I have decided my transition from a small third story apartment to a house with a big yard is partly to blame for my lack of blogging. During the day you can find me laying on a blanket in the grass enjoying the open space and warm sun reading my mindless book enjoying watching my kids dig for worms and ride bikes together (long sentence...I know). There are days I don't even turn on my computer anymore-which kind of feels good...and weird.

But to get to the point of this post (if I haven't already lost ya with my ramblings) is to get a vote from you. I am sure no one reads my blog anymore seeing as to how there is nothing new to read. But if you do, please vote so I know you still love me and so you can help a decisive-less person out.

Wonder what you are voting on yet?

Just look below and pick which crib set my little baby should lay his head on. Keep in mind his crib is white and that no baby ever uses the huge quilts that come with it...so disregard the blanket in the picture. You can vote by posting a comment.

Thank you for your help...you are going to help, right?

On My Mind

1. Yeah! The Office is finally back! I can't wait to sit and laugh while watching it tonight. I am going to have to go get ice cream to eat while watching to celebrate. Any excuse for ice cream is a good excuse.

2. The sun is back (at least for today)! This has seriously caused me to become a whole new person today. It is seventy degrees! No coats, no rain, no cloudy sky. I can't remember the last time the sun came out and shined itself upon us. I laid in the cool grass and warm sun for an hour today while my kids played and it was WONDERFUL!

3. I am tired of Scott working late. I am sure he is also, thus, I wont complain.
Well, except for just now.

4. Why am I craving egg salad sandwiches. I had my first stinky egg salad sandwhich about 3 years ago at my sisters house and I surprisingly enjoyed it. I still have never tried potato salad though-it just smells and looks way too nasty for me. Plus potatoes and mayo should NEVER be in the same bowl. Sick.

5. Listening to Sarah Mclachlan always make me happy.

6. I am tired of being pregnant-not pregnant-just big. Also, I miss running-it is what makes me sane and once I hit about 12 weeks of pregnancy I had to stop. Sigh. I miss sanity.

7. Did I mention The Office is all new tonight? Can I get a "woo woo"?

Oatmeal + cookies = Yummy!

I have an undying love for oatmeal.
When I was little I used to eat oats uncooked all by themselves.
To me there is nothing more satisfying than a bowl of thick, coarse, old fashioned oatmeal.
Yum.
Well, I also love cookies.
And last summer I found the best oatmeal cookie recipe
in the Washington Post (thank you Post).
These soft thick yummy cookies quickly became a family
favorite loved by all (even Tia-which is saying something).
I made some today and as I was eating one I thought,
hmm....I should share something this wonderful with you.

So here ya go...the yummiest oatmeal cookies ever
(by the way I never cook mine for the full 15 minutes-i usually do 11 minutes):

Salted Oatmeal Cookies
The Washington Post, June 13, 2007

Summary:

This cookie is all about the oats, without much spice to interfere with their earthy taste.

It's also a great dough to make ahead and keep on hand to bake off a few when the urge hits. Refrigerate the dough for several days. The cookies can be stored in an airtight tin for up to 1 week.

Makes 18 cookies

Ingredients:
12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups flour
2 cups rolled oats (not quick-cooking)
Sea salt, for sprinkling
Directions:

In the large bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the butter for a few minutes on medium-high speed until light and fluffy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and add the sugars, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon, beating until the mixture is well blended. Reduce the speed to medium and add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until well incorporated. Reduce the speed to low and add the flour and oats, scraping down the sides of the bowl as necessary and mixing just until they are incorporated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill the dough for at least an hour before baking.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

Form the dough into golf ball-size balls and place about 2 inches apart on the baking sheet. Sprinkle sea salt generously on top of each ball of dough, as you would sugar. Bake 1 sheet at a time for 15 minutes or until the cookies are puffed and beginning to turn golden, being careful not to overbake. (The cookies should have a tender interior.) Transfer the cookies, still on the parchment paper, to a wire rack to cool completely.

What?

Over the weekend I had the privilege to sit the chair of a hairstylist who tends to say things that leave me dumbfounded and in shock.
Next time I think I should take a tape recorder and try to get some of these unbelievable statements on tape-they are so much better first hand.
As a reminder, she is the same hairstylist that told me raising a dog is much harder than raising kids because dogs can think.
Here are a couple things she said to me this time (enjoy):

Hairstylist (while staring at my belly): "I can't believe you are on your third kid. Are you going to have more after this one."

Me:
"I'm planning on it."

Hairstylist
: "Not the answer I was looking for. You are such a beautiful girl, but one day you will wake up and be ugly. It happens so fast. One day you will look great and then the next day you will look in the mirror and be ugly because your kids have sucked all the beauty out of you." She then went on to tell me the way she stays beautiful at the age of 35 is by staying up late and clubbing...I guess she thinks that is what I should be doing for my beauty remedy as opposed to doing something meaningful such as bringing spirits into the world and raising them. If only I would have gotten this advice before I had kids, oh well, too late now.

Hairstylist:
"Plus, each child you have is more stupid. The first child is the most intelligent. Then when you have a second you are splitting a cell so that one is half as smart. Then the third is split again so he is a third as smart. So if you have five kids, by the fifth you will have a child that is not intelligent at all." She has told me that she is the oldest of three...man I would hate to see how stupid her younger siblings are after splitting whatever cell she is talking about because if she is the most intelligent of the three......well.....you know.

I honestly just sat there the entire time dumb founded-thankful that I had lost my voice that morning, giving me an excuse to not talk. I don't even know how to talk to her, where do you begin trying to understand the things she says?

DISCLAIMER:
I must say, she really is very kind to me. She always sends me home with a bag filled with samples of overpriced shampoos, conditioners, and styling products.
She also gave me a baby present this time-50% off much needed styling products and 20% off my cut and color. Seriously nice! So I feel bad making fun of her on my blog, but what she says is just too good and crazy not to share.

What Every Woman Should Splurge On

I am a person who doesn't like to spend money.

I like to shop, go out to eat, and see movies, but when it comes to actually doing those things and paying...I am...well...cheap.

It is such a dilemma.

However, there are three things I allow myself to splurge on with limited feelings of guilt.

And since I am trying to be a regular blogger,

and because I am splurging on two of them this weekend,

I am going to share them with you.
Every Woman Should Splurge On:

1. Hair. Every woman deserves a great cut! When it comes to hair, I have learned that you get what you pay for. You can have killer clothes, shoes, and makeup-but if your hair aint' cute...well...whats the point. Therefore, I spend a lot on my hair but only buy my clothes and shoes on sale.

2. Swimsuits. This one is serious. What I pay for my swimsuits, I would never pay for a new dress, pair of jeans, or just about any clothing item. Why? Because it is a tiny piece of fabric that I have to walk around half naked and wet in. Thus, I want what makes me look best and that I can feel and look confident in. Plus I have learned that cheap swimsuits are usually:
a. unflattering-they don't suck you in and lift you up in the right places.
b. thin. they usually become see through half way through summer
c. tight when you buy them and become baggy after a couple times of wearing them.

3. Base Makeup. I can handle cheaper makeup when it comes to blush, mascara, or lip stick. But base is a different story. There is nothing more scary on a face then chalky cakey base. Plus I like to buy it at a place where a sales person can match it to my skin tone and try it on me before I purchase it. Also, if you buy base at a department store and and later find it doesn't work for you, you can return it.

So there you have it. This weekend I am getting my hair cut and colored and buying new base. Yeah for me. Now I need a swimsuit that fits my pregnant belly.
